Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan wants peace in the region and if Iran wants to play a role in this regard, it will be welcomed.

According to state -run news agency APP, the Prime Minister spoke to Iranian President Masood Poshikian over the telephone and expressed his condolences to the Iranian president and brotherly Iranian nation on behalf of the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistani people on the tragic explosion of the Bandar Abbas’s Shahid Rajai port.

According to a press release from the media wing of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister prayed for the solidarity and early recovery of the injured, saying that Pakistan stands with Iran in this hour of sorrow and is ready to provide all possible assistance.

During the telephonic conversation, the two leaders discussed recent progress in the region.

The Prime Minister apprised Pakistan’s position on India’s provocative operations in the backdrop of the Pahalgam incident and made it clear that Pakistan wants peace in the region. If Iran wants to play a constructive role for peace in the region, Pakistan will welcome it.

The Prime Minister reiterated that Pakistan strongly condemns all kinds of terrorism and strongly denied any direct or indirect involvement of Pakistan in the Pahalgam incident.

He said that Pakistan itself has been the biggest victim of terrorism, which has resulted in the loss of thousands of valuable lives and billions of dollars of financial loss.

The Prime Minister also expressed Pakistan’s willingness for a neutral and transparent investigation.

In the context of the Sindh Tas Treaty, the Prime Minister termed the Indian decision to use water as a weapon unacceptable and said that Pakistan would defend its water rights at all costs.

Regarding the occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan will continue to support the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people and will continue to show solidarity with Kashmiris at all levels in the light of UN resolutions.

President Masood Poshikian thanked Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for expressing solidarity over the tragedy and praised Pakistan’s efforts for peace in the region.

During the conversation, President Poshikian invited Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to visit Tehran, on which the Prime Minister reiterated the invitation of the Iranian President to visit Pakistan.
