Washington:

Pakistan has assumed its 2-year term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

In this regard, a ceremony was held at the United Nations, in which Pakistan’s representative Asim Iftikhar participated in the ceremony of placing the flag of the non-permanent members of the Security Council. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s flag was installed in the Security Council.

Along with Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Panama and Somalia have also been elected as non-permanent members this time.

Pakistan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the eighth time, receiving 182 votes out of 193 member states.

On this occasion, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram said that Pakistan will play an active and constructive role in dealing with global challenges as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.

It should be noted that the United Nations Security Council consists of five permanent members (United States, Great Britain, Russia, China and France) and ten non-permanent members.

The term of the non-permanent members is two years and their electoral responsibility is to provide support in decision-making on important issues of international peace and security.
