Bangladesh-Pakistan Relations Army : After the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power in Bangladesh, the interim government of Mohammad Yunus has opened the doors of Dhaka for Pakistan. These doors have opened not only for commercial but also military cooperation between the two countries. Last week on Tuesday (January 14), Lieutenant General of Bangladesh Army SM Kamrul Hasan visited Pakistan. During this, he also met Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir and other top military officers. At the same time, after this, Chief of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, Lieutenant General Asim Malik has arrived on a visit to Dhaka. Apart from this, top military officials of Pakistan also visited Bangladesh.
Pakistani experts surprised by the closeness of Pak-Bangladesh
Interestingly, the first high level visit between Bangladesh and Pakistan was not between any political personality but between military generals and officers. During the rule of Mohammad Yunus, the Bangladesh Army seems to be completely subservient to the fire of Pakistan. The sudden closeness in relations between the two countries, which were once staunch enemies of each other, has worried India. Pakistani experts have also expressed surprise on this.
‘The policy shifted very quickly’– Najam Sethi
Nazar Sethi, an expert on Pakistani news channel Sama TV, sees this as a major policy change in Bangladesh. However, he has termed it as too hasty. He said, “The policy has shifted very quickly in Bangladesh. I did not anticipate that the policy would shift so soon.”
“Achievement for Pakistan, big blow for India”
Pakistani expert said, “First spoiling our relations with India and then improving relations with Pakistan, my guess was that this would happen gradually. But the way Bangladesh has embraced Pakistan by excluding India is surprising.” He has termed the growing relations and military cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan as a big achievement for Pakistan and a big blow for India.
“Pakistan needs to tread carefully”– Pakistani High Commissioner
Abdul Basit, who has been Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India, has advised to carefully look at the growing relations between the two countries. Abdul Basit said on a news channel, “We need to be careful regarding Bangladesh. Don’t get too excited about this.” He said, “India has already reached Iran and Afghanistan. Now we have got a chance in Bangladesh, but we have to be very careful.”
