
Shehbaz Sharif On Kashmir: Self-determination day for the people of Kashmir was celebrated in Pakistan today i.e. on 5 January 2025. On this occasion, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif made many allegations against India and once again raised the issue of referendum. He said that Pakistan has always been in favor of the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that we will continue to support Kashmiris politically and diplomatically in future also.
Shahbaz Sharif mentioned the UN resolution
Shahbaz Sharif said that today (5 January) in 1949, the United Nations (UN) had adopted the historic resolution which guarantees a free and fair referendum in Jammu and Kashmir. Shahbaz stressed that the right to self-determination is a core principle of the UN Charter and the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passes a resolution every year to advocate the legal right to self-determination. He said that it is unfortunate that the people of Kashmir have not been able to exercise this right for seven decades.
Pakistani PM’s appeal to the international community
The Pakistani PM said, “Now the time has come that the international community, including the United Nations, should live up to its promises and take such steps so that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can exercise their right to self-determination.” The Pakistani PM appealed to the global community to immediately stop human rights violations, release political prisoners and restore the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Kashmiri people.

Pakistani PM mentioned Article 370
Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif said, “India is taking many strong steps to strengthen its hold on Jammu and Kashmir. It started with the abrogation of Article 370 by the Government of India on August 5, 2019. India’s objective is majority Kashmiri people have to be turned into a minority community in their own motherland.”
President Asif Ali Zardari supported
According to Pakistan’s government radio, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari also reiterated that his country will continue to provide political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiri people. The President said in his message that India has been depriving the people of Jammu and Kashmir, which has been under illegal occupation for more than seven decades, of the right to self-determination and is subjecting them to oppression and violence.
