Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched Ujjwala 2.0 — the second section of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) — by handing over LPG connections in Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh.
After the formal launch, the prime minister distributed free fuel connections to 10 ladies nearly.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath handed over the paperwork to the ladies on behalf of the PM.
During Ujjwala 1.Zero launched in 2016, a goal was set to offer LPG connections to 5 crore ladies members of BPL households.
Subsequently, the scheme was expanded in April 2018 to incorporate ladies beneficiaries from seven extra classes resembling SC and ST communities and forest dwellers.
Also, the goal was revised to eight crore LPG connections. This was achieved in August 2019, seven months forward of schedule, officers mentioned.
In the Union Budget for 2021-22, provision for an extra one crore LPG connection below the scheme was introduced.
These one crore further connections below Ujjwala 2.Zero goal to offer deposit-free LPG connections to these low-income households who couldn’t be lined below the sooner section of PMUY.
Along with a deposit-free LPG connection, Ujjwala 2.Zero will present first refill and hotplate freed from value to the beneficiaries. The enrolment process would require minimal paperwork and in Ujjwala 2.0, migrants won’t be required to submit ration playing cards or deal with proof.
A self-declaration for each ‘family declaration’ and as a ‘proof of address’ will suffice, they mentioned.
Ujjwala 2.Zero will assist obtain the prime minister’s imaginative and prescient of common entry to LPG, it mentioned.
