
PM Modi Sri Lanka Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Colombo on the evening of Friday (April 4) on a three -day visit. Where five ministers including Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijita Herath, Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa and Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrashekhar were present at the airport to give him special welcome. Prime Minister Modi was welcomed with state honors. He was given a guard of honor and 21 cannon salutes at Freedom Chowk. This was the fourth time of his tour of Sri Lanka. This time PM Modi was awarded the Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushan Samman. It is the highest civilian honor of the Government of Sri Lanka, which is given to foreign dignitaries who have played special friendship with Sri Lanka.
On getting the highest civilian honor of the Sri Lanka government, PM Modi said that this honor is for 140 crore Indians. This reflects deep friendship and shared values between Sri Lanka and India. This honor confirms that India is not just a neighbor, but a “true friend”.

Economic and Development Cooperation: 10,000 crore projects
Not only diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka, but also the projects of ground development are going on. Prime Minister Modi mentioned many important development projects in his speech. He said that India will get direct support for the farmers of Sri Lanka. He announced residential and social schemes worth Rs 10,000 crore for the Indian Origin Tamil (IOT) community. Apart from this, he made new agreements with the government of Sri Lanka, including areas such as infrastructure, digital connectivity, and green energy.
Signing of ambitious agreement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Anuraa Kumara Disanayake first signed the ambitious agreement on defense cooperation on Saturday (April 5). Both sides also signed an agreement to develop Tinkomali as an energy center. Another agreement was made to provide multi-regional grant assistance of New Delhi in the eastern region of Sri Lanka. Prime Minister Modi and President Disanayake also inaugurated the Samapur Solar Energy Project through digital medium.
India helped Sri Lanka
The Prime Minister’s visit to Sri Lanka is taking place at a time when this island country is indicating to recover from the economic crisis. Three years ago, Sri Lanka was struggling with a major economic crisis and India gave him financial assistance of US $ 4.5 billion. PM Modi and President Disinayak will visit the historic city of Anuradhapura on April 6, where they will offer prayers at the Mahabodhi temple. The two leaders will jointly inaugurate two projects in Anuradhapura with the help of India.
