PTA says final date for VPN registration prolonged to September 30
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Friday introduced it has additional prolonged the deadline for companies and the general public to register their Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) with the authority.
Under the brand new deadline, customers can register their VPNs until September 30, 2020.
The move was made on the suggestions of the Ministry of IT, Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA).
“Legitimate VPN users are requested to approach their internet service provider for initiating VPN registration process,” stated PTA.

Earlier, on the outset of July, PTA had offered a possibility for VPN registration until July 31.
Prior to that, in June, the authority stated that the train is “being undertaken to promote legal #ICT services/business in Pakistan and safety of telecom users”.
It stated that “appropriate registration is required from PTA for any mode communication in which communication becomes hidden or encrypted”.
The authority had invited customers to finish registration by June 30, 2020.
It had warned that motion might be taken “only against unauthorised VPNs for terminating illegal traffic which causes loss to the national exchequer”.
A VPN is a service that permits customers to browse the web with their web protocol (IP) handle masked so their on-line actions are just about untraceable. This allows a consumer to keep up on-line safety and privateness.
