
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Deputy Commissioners of Gwadar and Dera Bugti to transfer billions of unutilized funds back to the exchequer.
According to Tribune’s report, the meeting chaired by Public Accounts Committee Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen focused on financial irregularities and misappropriation of public funds while stressing the accountability of the Balochistan administration.
During the session, DG Audit Balochistan revealed that there are unused funds of over Rs 14.5 billion in 50 accounts managed by DC Gwadar, out of which billions of rupees have already been returned.
The committee directed that amounts in dormant accounts should be transferred to the exchequer within six months, public advertisements would be published to inform eligible claimants, undisclosed amounts would return to the exchequer.
According to a Tribune report, a dormant account containing Rs 25.820 million was identified in Dera Bugti. The PAC ordered the immediate deposit of these funds into the treasury to deal with decades of financial mismanagement.
PAC’s initiatives highlight its commitment to implement financial transparency and address the long-standing problems of mismanagement in Balochistan.
