In the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy, it was revealed that due to the government’s initiatives, there was a reduction of 12 billion rupees in the revolving credit of energy, while the Prime Minister said that steps are being taken to provide low-cost, environment-friendly and continuous electricity to the people. .

According to Express News, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy was held under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, in which Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Sardar Owais Khan Laghari, Minister of State Ali Pervez Malik, Special Assistant Muhammad Ali, Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal and concerned senior officials attended.

In the meeting, the government approved the Cabinet Committee on Power’s recommendation of uniform tariff for Special Industrial Zones (SEZs) and industrial estates, while a new system for power supply to Special Industrial Zones (SEZs) and industrial estates was approved.

According to a statement, the Cabinet Committee on Energy today on the summary of the Power Division allowed single point power supply to Industrial Estates and Special Industrial Zones and their management to provide self-connection, bill collection and other matters.

According to the declaration, under this system, the interference of the officers of the electricity distribution companies in the special industrial zones and industrial estates was abolished. In this regard, a specific operations and management mechanism is being created, which will be implemented by the Power Division and Nepra in two to three months.

Under the system, the zone developer will not require any additional license to supply electricity to the industries in the zones. Under which industries will have ease of competition due to uniform tariffs, industrial growth and exports will increase.

The Prime Minister directed to apply the new system to all Special Industrial Zones. In his statement, he said that industrial development is of key importance for the development of the country, and with the grace of Allah, he is moving fast towards the fulfillment of his promise of ease of doing business.

He said that supplying electricity to industries at a uniform tariff will increase the pace of industrial development in the country. More opportunities will be created, exports will increase, while the improvement of power transmission system to the special industrial zones will help the industries in further development of the economy. will play a key role.

Briefing regarding revolving credit of Power Division

The meeting was also presented with the revolving credit report from July to November 2024 by the Power Division, which stated that the positive results of the Prime Minister’s power sector reforms are continuing.

In the briefing, it was stated that in the first five months of the current fiscal year, instead of increasing, the revolving credit increased by 368 billion rupees in July-November 2023, while in the first five months of 2024, the revolving credit increased Instead of any increase, there was a decrease of 12 billion rupees, after which there has been a total improvement of 380 billion rupees in the revolving credit compared to the previous financial year.

In the briefing, it was stated that after the increase of 4%, the receipts of the electricity sector reached 96% in the first five months of the current financial year. Overall, the price was reduced by Rs 4.64 in the current financial year, which was possible after the reforms.

Speaking to the participants after the briefing, the Prime Minister said that history is a witness that when Allah gave the opportunity, He brought the country out of darkness, the process of reforms in the electricity sector is going on rapidly, which is continuing to bear fruit.

He said that steps are being taken to provide low-cost, environment-friendly and continuous electricity to the people, steps are being taken to further reduce the cost for electricity consumers by revising the contracts of IPPs, Power Division and The concerned institutions are commendable for reducing revolving credit and reforming the sector.
