Lahore:
The Punjab government has decided to regulate illegal housing societies.
A special meeting of the housing sector chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was held in which the mechanism, regulation and digitalization of regulating illegal housing societies were considered.
In the meeting, Chief Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered the abolition of unnecessary NOC needed for the registration of the housing society and said that the process should be made easy and effective for public convenience.
During the meeting, it was also agreed to set up a high level committee for the regularization of illegal housing societies. The Chief Minister said that the problem of such schemes should be resolved as soon as possible according to the law so that relief is provided to the people.
It was decided in the meeting that for the first time in Punjab, the housing sector would be fully digitized and the “Housing Society Management System” would be introduced. Under this system, all stages of the Society’s approval, management and transfer will be completed online. After uploading documents, NOC fees will also be paid online.
The development and management process of housing societies will also be made foolproof through the new system, while it has been decided to secure the sale and sale of plot for the public as much as possible.
The Chief Minister said that it is cruel to not take the plot from the poor people, and some government departments are equally responsible for the establishment of illegal societies. He said that the schemes came into existence with the collusion and the common man was punished. “When illegal housing societies were being built, why were the relevant agencies silent?”
Maryam Nawaz said that the housing schemes that have been formed, they will have to give amnesty once according to the rules and regulations so that the problem can be resolved.
The briefing given to the meeting was informed that the total number of housing societies across Punjab is 7905, which covers an area of about 2 million kanals. Of these, 2687 societies are approved while 5118 are in the process of illegal or approval.
There are a total of 707 housing schemes organized by the LDA, out of which 427 approved, 206 illegal and 74 schemes are underway.
