
Saudi Arab Angry Over Israel: Yusuf bin Trad al-Sadoun, a member of the Saudi Arabia’s Shura Parishad, made fun of the suggestion of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which the idea of establishing the Palestinian kingdom on Saudi land. Taking a sarcasm at this suggestion through an article in Saudi newspaper Okaz, he said that instead of Netanyahu’s suggestion, US President Donald Trump should be advised to settle Israeli in Alaska or Greenland.
Netanyahu recently suggested in an interview with Israeli’s Channel 14 that Saudi Arabia could establish the Palestinian kingdom on its land. The statement came at a time when Riyadh clarified that relations with Israel would be normal only when a clear path of establishment of Palestinian state would be seen. Al-Sadoun reacted to Netanyahu’s suggestion, calling it absurd and condemned the Zionic mentality behind it. He said, “Zionist and their colleagues cannot manipulate the Saudi leadership through the media.”
Criticism of Trump Administration
Al-Sadoun also strongly criticized the Middle East policy of US President Donald Trump, which has been said to support insensitivity to the Palestinian state and Israeli interests. He accused the Trump administration of taking careless decisions and ignoring the advice of experts. He wrote that Israel’s approach is a crime against humanity and it also gets indirect support by the US.
International community response
Palestine, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia have given sharp reactions to Netanyahu’s statement. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry called it racist and anti-peace and described it as a serious violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty. At the same time, Egypt described Netanyahu’s statement as an irresponsible and unacceptable, calling it irresponsible and unacceptable.
Saudi Arabia’s stand
Saudi Arabia has been making it clear for a long time that the normalization of its diplomatic relations with Israel will be possible only when the Palestinian state will be clear. Netanyahu’s suggestion has challenged Saudi sovereignty and regional stability, with which the Saudi leadership has taken a tough stand.
Saudi Shura Parishad is a consultative institution, which advises Saudi king on policy and legislative matters, although it has no legislative rights. Its members are appointed by the king and they discuss social, economic and legal matters.
