Russian government officials have said that the leader of the opposition and rebels that ousted Bashar al-Assad in Syria has given assurances that Russian military bases will be protected.
According to the report of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Russian state media said that the Kremlin is in contact with the opposition leadership in Syria and has assured the security of Russian military bases and diplomatic installations.
The report stated that Russia has always insisted on a negotiated solution to the Syrian crisis.
Russian officials said that we hope that the dialogue process will continue in the best interest of the people in Syria.
He said that the negotiation process will be resumed for the promotion of bilateral relations between Russia and Syria.
The BBC reported that Moscow is currently exploring ways to restore contacts and relations with the new Syrian leadership in order to improve relations in the future.
It should be noted that Russia has two major military bases in Syria, the Hamimam Air Base and the naval bases in Tartus, and Russia has had access to the eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea for many years.
On the other hand, Russia has been calling the Syrian rebel opposition group as terrorists until a few days ago, while now according to reports, they are being called armed opposition.
