Two members of the West Virginia National Guard deployed in the US capital Washington were shot on Wednesday (26 November 2025), a short distance from the White House. On the matter, FBI Director Kash Patel and Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the Guard members have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Mayor Muriel Bowser has called it a targeted attack, which has further increased the concern of security agencies.
Immediately after the incident, the FBI and local police started a joint investigation. FBI Director Kash Patel said that the injured soldiers were treated on time. A suspect has also been caught after being shot and there is no threat to his life at present. According to NBC report, the suspect who opened fire on two National Guard members in Washington DC has been identified as Rahmanullah, a 29-year-old Afghan national. Agencies are trying to find out whether the attack was deliberately targeted at soldiers. Apart from this, the case is also being investigated from the angle of terrorist attack.
There was a commotion at the scene
In the video going viral on social media, EMT team is seen giving CPR to injured soldiers. Blood stains and broken glass were clearly visible on the sidewalk. Within minutes of the incident, a large number of police, fire department and helicopters reached the spot. An eyewitness on the matter said that due to the firing there was panic in the entire area.
National Guard deployment in DC in controversy
The deployment of National Guard in Washington DC has been a major political issue for the past months. More than 300 soldiers were deployed to the city in August, many of whom have returned. Recently 160 soldiers had decided to increase their deployment. During this time, the Trump administration had also ordered to take DC Police under federal control, which was challenged in the court. On the same incident, President Donald Trump wrote in a social media post that whoever attacks soldiers will have to pay a heavy price. Apart from this, Vice President JD Vance also expressed concern and said that we all should pray. Our soldiers are the shield of this country. This attack is a serious warning.
