The 14-year hiatus of the Sindh Police Games came to an end and the Police Games 2025 began with the opening ceremony at the Police Headquarters Garden.
The Chief Guest of the opening ceremony of Sindh Police Games 2025 was Provincial Minister of Home Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Zia-ul-Hasan Linjar where IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, former famous athletes, politicians and artists among others also participated.
Under the supervision of DIG Traffic and Sindh Police Sports Board Chairman Syed Pir Mohammad Shah, 1570 personnel including 117 women in 12 squads of different units for 900 medals and 78 trophies in 18 different sports competitions are showing their abilities and skills in the 4-day games.
The Sindh Police Games 2025 will feature athletics, boxing, bodybuilding, cricket, football, handball, hockey, half marathon, judo, karate, netball, swimming, shooting ball, shooting, tug of war and volleyball while the aslit course has the status of an exhibition competition.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Guest Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Linjar said that the police has been criticized a lot in the past, our effort was to show the positive and true face of the police to the public, the situation in Karachi has improved a lot and peace has been established due to the efforts of the police.
He said that they want to build sports fields, there should be a quota for sports and artists in the police department.
IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon said that the holding of Sindh Police Games after 14 years is welcome, Karachi and internal Sindh police were facing challenges of various crimes, operation clean-up continued for 3 years continuously, all the institutions took measures together which brought positive results.
He said that the police also played their role, we did aggressive policing, nogo areas were eradicated, street crimes reduced by 30% in Karachi, kidnapping for ransom is negligible and special attention is being given to fitness in the police department for which sports activities will be promoted.
Additional IG Karachi Javed Odhu said that the police have made immense sacrifices for the establishment of peace, the rate of crime has decreased a lot, there has been success in establishing the rule of law in the Kacha area, sports will be promoted in the police like other departments.
DIG Traffic and Sindh Sports Board Chairman P. Syed Pir Muhammad Shah said that after 14 years, organizing games was an important task for the police, which was successfully completed.
