Six airbags necessary in passenger automobiles from Oct 1, 2023, says Nitin Gadkari

The Centre has determined to postpone a proposal to mandate a minimal of six airbags in all passengers automobiles to October 1, 2023, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated Thursday.

The authorities had earlier deliberate to make six airbags necessary in eight-seater automobiles for enhanced security of occupants from October 1, 2022. The Road Transport and Highways Minister stated the choice was taken maintaining in thoughts the worldwide provide chain constraints confronted by the auto business within the nation.

“Considering the global supply chain constraints being faced by the auto industry and its impact on the macroeconomic scenario, it has been decided to implement the proposal mandating a minimum of six airbags in passenger cars (M-1 Category) with effect from October 1, 2023,” Gadkari tweeted.

Safety of all passengers travelling in motor automobiles no matter their value and variants is the foremost precedence, he added.
