SEOUL:
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, who imposed failed martial law, has been banned from traveling abroad.
The ban on President Yoon Suk Yeol by the Ministry of Justice comes at a time when he is being asked to resign and the leadership crisis in the country has been intensifying.
Anti-corruption agency chief Oh Dong-won, when asked what actions are going to be taken against him, said that the president has been barred from traveling abroad.
The Ministry of Defense said that President Yoon is still legally the commander in chief, but on the other hand, his grip on authority has become a question mark due to growing differences in the senior military leadership.
This is the first time that such a ban has been imposed on a sitting president. The main opposition party, the Democratic Party, has called for the removal of President Yun’s authority over the military and the arrest of President Yun and military officials involved in the martial law effort.
Earlier, President Yoon has apologized for trying to impose martial law.
