Star Trek impressed machine sees drones fly off manufacturing facility line


A industrial laser cutter has been reworked from a 2D machine to a 3D all-in-one assembler able to creating units which may fly straight off the manufacturing facility line.

LaserFactory is designed to create purposeful units and robots, Martin Nisser, PhD scholar at MIT CSAIL mentioned.

“We wanted to be able to fabricate something which required no human intervention to actually get it off the ground,” he mentioned, explaining that they drew inspiration from the replicators on the science fiction collection Star Trek.
