Taliban Minister Khalil Haqqani Kabul killed in bomb blast attack Afghanistan crisis

Afghanistan crisis: The suicide attack in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Wednesday (December 11) shocked the Taliban government. Khalil ur-Rahman Haqqani, the refugee minister of the Taliban government, and two other people were killed in this attack. This attack took place inside the ministry, which is considered a big challenge for the Taliban. The special thing is that Khalil Haqqani was the uncle of Taliban government’s Home Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani. Sirajuddin is considered the most influential leader of the Taliban and the backbone of the organization.

The Taliban had captured power in Kabul three years ago, but this is the first time that any of its top leaders has been targeted in this way. Till now no organization has taken responsibility for this attack. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid expressed grief over the incident and said that Khalil Haqqani was a great warrior who dedicated his life to protecting Islam. According to experts, this attack is a big blow to the Taliban as it reflects the growing dissatisfaction against the government.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly condemned the attack

After the attack, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly condemned the incident and termed it a terrorist attack. Dar said that Pakistan opposes all forms of terrorism and is in touch with Kabul. However, according to reports, Khalil Haqqani was angry with Pakistan. This resentment can be a major reason for the attack.

Enmity between Islamic State and Taliban

The Taliban’s main adversary, the Islamic State-linked terrorist organization, continues to target it. This organization is suspected to be involved in the recent suicide attacks. In September, the same organization had killed six people and injured many in a bomb blast in Kabul. This organization is now also targeting Shia Muslim minorities who are already in a weak position in Afghanistan.

Growing controversies on women’s issues

Analysts believe that the reason behind Khalil Haqqani’s death could be his recent controversial statements regarding the rights of women and girls. According to Ibrahim Bahis, analyst of Crisis Group’s South Asia Program, Home Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani had criticized these statements. Although this incident does not reflect a civil war-like situation in the Taliban, the fight to retain power has definitely intensified.
