ICC Warrant Taliban: The International Criminal Court (ICC) had given a statement regarding issuing arrest warrants against Taliban Supreme Leader Haibatullah Akhundzada and Chief Justice of “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” Abdul Hakim Haqqani. After this, Afghanistan responded by saying that if the ICC wants to prosecute, then it should not prosecute Taliban but America and Israel.
According to news agency AFP, Afghanistan’s Deputy Interior Minister Mohammad Nabi Omari said that “If these were fair and true courts, they should have brought America to court, because it is America that has become the cause of the war.” At an event in the city of Khost, Mohammad Nabi Omari said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should also be brought before the court.
What did Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry say?
According to National Television of Afghanistan, Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry has described this case as devoid of impartial legal basis, double dealing and politically motivated issue. The Foreign Ministry said that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan strongly condemns and rejects these baseless allegations. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “This structure is making baseless allegations against the leaders of the Islamic Emirate at a time when there has been peace in Afghanistan, people have just breathed a sigh of relief. This is the time of private prisons, kidnappings, human Opposition activities have ended from the country.”
‘ICC turned a blind eye’
The Ministry of External Affairs said, “It is regrettable that this agency (ICC) has turned a blind eye to war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by foreign forces and their internal allies during the 20-year occupation of Afghanistan.”
According to the Afghan Foreign Ministry, such behavior further destroys the already weak foundation of the ICC and undermines its credibility at the international level. The Foreign Ministry statement stressed that it (Taliban) does not try to impose a particular definition of human rights on the entire world and ignore the religious and national values of the people of the rest of the world.
