Thailand-Cambodia ready for ceasefire, Trump announced, PM of this country played an important role

Thailand Cambodia Conflict: Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to halt all military action against each other after days of deadly border clashes. US President Donald Trump announced that both the countries have agreed to end all types of hostilities on the border from Friday evening. With this decision, it is expected that tension will be reduced in the area and peace will be restored.

US President Donald Trump said that he had separate talks with Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet. Trump described these talks as very good. In his post on Truth Social, he said that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also played an important role and mediated in this ceasefire agreement.

Agreement on ceasefire from Friday evening

According to Trump, the leaders of both countries have committed to stop all firing with immediate effect and return to the pre-arranged peace framework with US participation. He wrote, ‘They have agreed to stop all firing from today (Friday) evening and return to the original peace agreement made with the help of me and the great Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim.’

Peace returned after many days

The new ceasefire comes after days of deadly clashes that have forced thousands of civilians to flee their homes. The recent clashes also threatened to break the ceasefire implemented earlier this year. Donald Trump has often claimed that he has stopped eight wars so far and he has also included the Thailand-Cambodia case in this claim. However, due to the recent violence, questions were being raised on this claim.

Had warned of interference earlier also

Earlier this week, during an event in Pennsylvania, Trump had hinted at intervention by referring to the deteriorating situation between Thailand and Cambodia. He had said, ‘I will make a phone call and stop the war between two very powerful countries, Thailand and Cambodia.’

There was ceasefire in July also

It is noteworthy that earlier in the month of July also, Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to a basic ceasefire under the mediation of Malaysia. The July ceasefire came into effect when Donald Trump warned that if both the countries did not stop the conflict, America could stop their trade facilities. After the latest agreement, there is once again hope towards permanent peace in the region.
