There has been a strange event in Australian history called the “Emu War”.
The incident took place in 1932 when the Australian army fought a ‘war’ against birds destroying Western Australian farmers’ crops.

After the First World War, the Australian government gave veterans land in Western Australia so that they could agriculture. However, in 1932, about 20,000 emo birds came to these areas and started damaging the crops. The military campaign began in the Campiene district of Western Australia, which lasted from November to December 1932. The small group of the army was led by Major Goneth Medath, equipped with machine guns and 10,000 bullets.
The army tried to target emo birds, but these birds escaped attacks fast and dispersed. On one occasion, the army pursued the machine guns on the truck, but the attempt failed due to uneven land.
About 986 birds were killed in this incident. It did not cause any casualties to the army, but the campaign failed. Emo birds continued to damage the crops and the military intervention did not prove effective and the birds were left in their situation.
This incident has become an interesting and sarcastic chapter in Australian history. It was created in 2019 and a comedy film titled “The Emu War” was also released in 2023.
