The US Supreme Court ruled to maintain the ban on Tik Tok in the US citing national security.
According to the report of the foreign news agency Reuters, the Supreme Court decided to maintain the ban in the case of not selling Tik Tok to American citizens and this decision was made unanimously by 9 judges.
The report stated that Tik Tok is used by almost half of the US population, but the court has refused to protect this platform.
The ruling states that the law passed by Congress does not conflict with the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which protects the right to free speech.
US Supreme Court judges have upheld the lower court’s decision, which banned TikTok, ByteDance and other applications, against which the users of the said applications filed an appeal in the Supreme Court.
The court said in the ruling that there is no doubt that for more than 170 million Americans, TikTok is a comprehensive and special platform for expression, which provides an opportunity for citizens to connect, but Congress has prohibited national security from TikTok. Its sale has been deemed necessary to eliminate the threats posed to it.
A statement from the White House indicated that President Joe Biden would not take any action to save TikTok before the Sunday deadline, while President-elect Donald Trump has opposed a ban on TikTok and said Monday Will take oath of office.
Trump said in a statement on social media that the decision of the Supreme Court was expected and everyone should respect it and my decision regarding Tik Tok will not be far away, but I need to review the situation. It will take time.
Trump said that during a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, other controversies, including Tik Tok, were discussed.
