Legal proceedings have been launched in Australia against a man who stole millions of dollars from his mentally ill parents for his siblings.
Blake Adrian Brinklow, 49, was found guilty of stealing funds from his parents Paul and Valerie (who are now deceased) between March 2017 and July 2018.
After Blake was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016, Blake was appointed as the parent’s power of attorney, which meant that all parenting matters were under Blake’s control.
Blake’s parents spent their final years in a care facility. Blake’s mother, Valerie Brinklow, died in 2019, while her father died two years later in January 2021.
Black has denied all wrongdoing in court but was convicted by a jury of three counts of theft under power of attorney.
Black could only pay $387,809 in damages, the court was told by the plaintiff’s attorney, but court documents show the plaintiff, the Brinklow property management agency, is seeking much more than that.
The lawsuit states that Brinklow’s estate is seeking nearly $800,000 in payments made to several online gambling companies and accounts linked to Black’s business.
