President Donald Trump known as the mayor of Portland “pretty pathetic” for attending a rally in his metropolis, the place he was booed by protesters after which tear gassed by federal brokers.

Commenting on Wheeler talking on the protest Wednesday night time, the place he was booed, Trump stated: “He made a fool out of himself.”

Wheeler has been criticized within the metropolis for failing to handle the violent measures utilized by Portland’s native police in earlier protests.

“He wanted to be among the people, so he went into the crowd and so they knocked the hell out of him, so that was the end of him,” Trump stated Thursday. “So that was pretty pathetic.”

The president emphasised that whereas Wheeler was uncovered to tear fuel fired by the federal brokers, he was not bodily attacked by anybody.

After being subjected to tear fuel, Wheeler informed a reporter for The New York Times: “I’m not going to lie — it stings; it’s hard to breathe.”

According to The Times, after the group was hit by one other wave of tear fuel, protesters mockingly requested him how he felt.

Protests in Portland have been ongoing because the loss of life of George Floyd in late May. They reached a fever pitch final week when it was revealed that unidentified federal brokers had been selecting protesters up off the road and placing them in unmarked automobiles. 

Portland officers — together with Wheeler — have been outspoken of their opposition to federal assist in addressing the protests, which have raged on for greater than 50 days.

The Trump administration, in the meantime, has urged it could ship brokers to extra Democrat-led cities.
