The World Health Organization (WHO) chief, Dr. Tedros Edhanom Gabris, has warned that two million people in the Gaza Strip are on the brink of death due to hunger.
Addressing the World Health Organization’s annual assembly, he added that two million people were starving in Gaza for 2 months due to blockade, while at a distance of just a few minutes, one lakh 60 thousand metric tonnes of food was stopped at the border.
The head of the World Health Organization has expressed concern that the deliberate stop of humanitarian aid, including food, has posed a serious threat of famine in Gaza.
He said that the World Health Organization and other UN agencies are fully prepared to provide aid to the Palestinian territory provided they are allowed to enter.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, on the other hand, said that the famine in Gaza has become necessary for diplomatic reasons, which is why limited food has been allowed to enter.
Netanyahu added that the move is aimed at the immediate recovery of the rest of the hostages in Gaza and the defeat of Hamas, and that is why the Israeli army will take control of Gaza.
WHO chief Dr Tedros said that war, order to evacuate citizens, and aid ban has completely paralyzed Gaza’s already destructive health system.
He added that people are dying of diseases that were possible, but medicines are in containers standing on the border, waiting for indications to enter Gaza.
According to the World Health Organization, 7,300 patients have been shifted from Gaza to treatment from November 2023, including 617 cancer patients.
However, more than 10,000 patients are still awaiting immediate transfer from Gaza for treatment, but constant bombing is a hindrance.
The WHO chief appealed to the international community to make arrangements to bring more patients from Gaza to their own country.
He also called on Israel to allow medical and food aid to immediately enter.
At the end of his address, Tedros said, “We hope that peace be established, a peace that lasts for generations.” War is never a solution to a problem.
