Ramsa, a Turkish student protesting the Gaza war in the United States, was honored by the court.
Tufts University PhD student and Philbright scholar Ramsa Ozturk was kept at Luziana’s immigration detention center for more than six weeks.
On Friday, Federal Judge William Sessions of Vermont ordered the immediate release of Ramasa, saying that he was imprisoned for writing an opinion, which is a violation of constitutional expression.
The judge said: “This arrest can affect the freedom of millions of people who are non -citizens. In this case, anyone may be afraid of expressing their thoughts. “
Ramasa was arrested in March by plain clothes, masked personnel from Samirul area of Boston, while she was near her home. His fault was simply that he criticized his university’s policy against Palestinians and demanded an investment from Israeli companies.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) lawyers took a stand in court that the arrest of Ramasa was illegal and a violation of constitutional rights.
During the hearing, Ramsa said that she suffered severe asthma visits during detention, which is the result of poor conditions and stress. The court directed the immediate release in keeping with their health.
