WATCH: Iran’s provincial governor slapped throughout inauguration ceremony

Iran opened a prison investigation Saturday into an assault towards East Azerbaijan province’s new governor, a former brigadier within the Revolutionary Guards, throughout his inauguration ceremony, state media reported on Saturday.

Video of the assault circulated on social media, displaying a person operating on stage and slapping Governor Abedin Khoram simply as he was about to ship a speech within the presence of Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi.

Stewards then threw the attacker out of the assembly corridor.

IRNA stated it was the 55-year-old’s first public look since his appointment as governor by ultraconservative President Ebrahim Raisi final Sunday.

“According to some sources, the attacker was an employee of the (Guards’) Ashura Corps with personal motives,” it stated.
