Who is Ahmad Al Sharaa: The Assad rule of 50 years in Syria has come to an end. On Wednesday (29 January), Ahmed al-Shara was appointed as the interim President of the country and was entrusted with the responsibility of making him a legislature. The decision came at a time when the rebels led by the Islamic rebel coalition Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) ousted Bashar al-Assad from power on 8 December.
According to the Syrian state news agency SANA, military officer Hasan Abdel Ghani announced that Ahmed al-Shara would work as an interim president in the country and represent Syria on international forums. Let us know that after Ahmed al-Shara came to power, the 2012 constitution in the country has been suspended. Apart from this, the Parliament of Asad government has been dissolved. A new temporary Legislative Council will be formed. Shara said that his priority would be to establish peace in the country, rebuild institutions and build a stable economy.
Travel from terrorist organization to power
Ahmed al-Shara, who was elected Syrian interim President, has been working as the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) since 2017. The group is a rebellious faction from al-Qaeda in Syria, which has removed Bashar al-Assad from power in 2024. HTS was formed in 2016 by separating from the Al-Nusara front, which made the northwest Idlib its stronghold. It has been declared HTS as a terrorist organization by the United Nations, America, European Union and Britain.
Large changes in Syria: restructuring of army and institutions
Along with the rule of Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian Army and other government agencies have also been effectively demolished. On this occasion, Abdel Ghani announced that Assad’s army and security agencies would be dissolved. All armed groups and political organizations would be merged with state institutions. Serian Army will be restructured and a new security mechanism will be created.

Will the path of election be easy?
After being elected to the new interim President of the country, Shara said that it may take three years to re -write the constitution in the country. Apart from this, it can take up to four years to complete the election process. However, no official announcement has been made to organize any kind of program or conference at the national level to talk on many issues so far.
Western countries eyes on Syria
Since Bashar al-Assad’s withdrawal from power, Western countries have called for inclusive changes in Syria. Many countries including the US have declared HTS as a terrorist organization. However, HTS has recently reduced its radical rhetoric and has spoken of protecting the religious and ethnic minorities of Syria. A group of Western diplomats are visiting Syria to communicate with the new government.
Will Syria be able to get stability?
In 2011, after crushing the anti -government protests against the Assad rule, the civil war broke out in Syria. More than 500,000 people were killed and millions of people were displaced in this struggle. Now that Assad is out of power, the question arises whether the new government will be able to bring stability in Syria?
