Tahawwur Day: The way has been cleared to bring Tehwwur Rana, accused of the Mumbai 26/11 attack. The US Supreme Court has approved Rana’s extradition. The court has dismissed the review petition against his conviction. India was demanding extradition of Canadian Citizen Tahawwur Rana of Pakistani origin.
Rana is wanted in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack case. This was the last legal opportunity for Tehwavur Rana not to extradite India. Earlier, Rana has lost a legal battle in several federal courts including the US Appeal Court for North Circuit in San Francisco. Let us know who is Tehwavur Rana?
Know who is Tehwavur Rana
Tehwwur Rana was a doctor in the first army in Pakistan. Rana is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin. He studied in Pakistan but later moved to Canada as a businessman. He is a school friend of terrorist David Headley (Dawood Gilani). He studied for five years with Headley at Hasan Abdal Cadet School in Pakistan.
Rana is the same person who helped Headley to get Indian tourist visas on the basis of fake documents. Lashkar-e-Taiba was also provided with Lashkar-e-Taiba for the alleged 26/11 attacks on Rana. Before the Mumbai terror attack, both Rana and Headley traveled together from New York to Pakistan and Dubai to Pakistan.
Arrested in Chicago in 2009
America’s FBI arrested Rana from Chicago in 2009. He was working in India as an operative of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. David Coleman Headley, the chief mastermind of the attack, was helped by Rana to plot, recommend the attack. The evidence of which was presented by India in the US court, in which Rana’s involvement was clearly visible.
Significantly, on 26 November 2008, Mumbai was shocked by the bullets of terrorists. 166 people including six American citizens were killed in terrorist attacks, while a large number of people were injured.

December 4, 2019
- India handed over a diplomatic/ diplomatic note to the US to extradite Rana.
June 10, 2020
- India filed a complaint demanding a temporary arrest of Rana for the purpose of extradition.
- The Biden administration supported Rana’s extradition and approved it.

- After positive testing for Kovid-19, was released from US jail on sympathy basis
August 9, 2023
- Amit Shah said that Tawwur Rana, accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attack, will soon face the Indian judiciary. He was arrested again after India’s extradition request.
13 November 2024
- Rana filed a “Catalys Rit Petition” in the US Supreme Court.
21 January 2025
- The Supreme Court of America dismissed the petition filed by Tahwwur Rana.
25 January 2025
- The US Supreme Court approved the extradition of India’s India involved in the Mumbai attack.
