Haney reportedly also declared that the Office of Inspector General is investigating the case.
The Late Inmate Was Accused Of Killing 22 Texas Women
While the details surrounding Chemirmir’s death remain hazy, the accusations against him are crystal clear.
AP News reports that Billy Chemirmir was indicted on 22 counts of murder. The 50-year-old was suspected of targeting elderly women before invading their homes to suffocate and rob them. Additionally, we should note that thirteen of the charges are based in Dallas County, while the remaining nine stem from Collin County.
Ultimately, he was convicted of killing Mary Brooks and Lu Thi Harris—87 and 81, respectively.
It’s worth pointing out that NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth separately confirmed the news of Chemirmir’s recent passing, and the station dove into the crimes attributed to him within a series called “Stranger at the Door.”
Despite the numerous allegations and two convictions, Chemirmir maintained his innocence. In fact, he previously told The Dallas Morning News, “I am not a killer.” Before his passing, the 50-year-old was serving out two life sentences at the H.H. Coffield Unit prison in Anderson County, Texas.
